Chaos Crags, Lassen Volcanic Park, California

Chaos Crags, Lassen Volcanic Park, California. The Crags are a cluster of rhyodacite domes near Lassen Peak. Rubble in the foreground extending to the base of the Crags is a large rockfall-avalanche deposit that was generated approximately 300 years ago by three separate explosive events that caused the domeface to collapse. This deposit is called the Chaos Jumbles. Photograph by R. Forrest Hopson.
