Free video conferencing software and inexpensive cameras are available that allow us to do live, multi-party, video conferencing over the internet. Live conferencing gives your students the opportunity to visit, converse and discuss volcano phenomena with a volcano expert.

  1. Ask volcano related questions to a volcano expert in a live internet forum.
  2. Visit with a volcano expert about volcano phenomena.

  1. Student questions from previous lessons and research.
  2. QuickCam like the one from Connectix Co.
  3. Video conferencing software like Cornell Universities CuSee-Me
  4. VOLC Broadcasting Schedule

  1. Send email to Brad Klein to let him know you would like to participate.
  2. Download CuSee-Me for the Mac or PC from Cornell University.*
  3. Obtain a video-in signal, you can use a Connectix Cam.
  4. Have the students write down at least three questions that they would like to ask the volcano expert.
  5. Connect to the VolcanoWorld reflector at ip# 134.129.212.11 on the second Wednesday of the month, at 9:00 pacific time -OR-
  6. Check the VOLC Broadcasting Schedule and see when you can fit a conference in.

* The White Pine video conferencing software is free and available on the web. Follow the White Pine link above. You may use it without the camera to see and hear the conference, but you will not be able to ask questions.
