Rainbow Falls
A short side trip up highway 200 (Waianuenue Avenue) leads to Boiling
Pots and Rainbow Falls. Basalt columns are exposed in the bed of the
Wailuku River at Boiling Pots. This photo shows Rainbow Falls, where a
resistant Mauna Loa flow overlies less resistant Mauna Kea flows that
have eroded to form a cave.
Highway 19 ends in Hilo. Highway 11 leads south to the town of Keaau.
