Parque Nacional de Timanfaya

Parque Nacional de Timanfaya is a volcanic park on the island of Lanzarote. The island and the park were declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1993. This photo shows one of about a hundred volcanic cones in the National Park of Timanfaya. Timanfaya is used by scientists to examine how vegetation returns to new land.

View from an about 5 meters wide street which leads 13 km through the National Park. The park looks like an ocean of lava.
