Where is the loneliest volcano of the world?

rocky Tuukka

Hi Tuukka,

Now there's a question! I have no idea, it depends on how you define lonley. If you want a volcano that has no nearby neighbors then you might consider Easter Island. It hasn't erupted for quite a while, but it is a long way from any continents or other islands. However, it does have a reasonable number of people, horses, tourists, etc. to keep it company. Perhaps the lonliest volcanoes are those that make up the South Sandwich islands. They are a small chain of islands south of the southern end of South America. There the ocean is very cold and rough, and hardly anyone ever goes there. They only have their fellow volcanoes (and penguins, I think) to keep company.

Sincerely,

Scott Rowland
