What is the purpose of a volcano, and how hot is its core?
Dear Reader,
I'm not sure if volcanoes really have a purpose. I guess they function
as a place for heat, liquid rock, and gas to be released from the
interior of the Earth.
The temperature in the core is about 9900 to 11900 F (5500 C to 6600 C).
The temperature in the mantle, where rocks melt to make magma, is about
3600 F (2000 C).
