What kinds of rocks and minerals are volcanoes made of?
Anonymous
Dear Reader,
The most common volcanic rock is basalt. It makes the entire ocean floor
and some continental volcanoes. It commonly contains the minerals
olivine, pyroxene, and plagioclase.
The most common rock in stratovolcanoes is andesite. Andesite is made
ofthe minerals plagioclase and pyroxene, hornblende, and/or biotite.
Rhyolite is less common. It is made of alkali feldspar and quartz.
