Can a normal mountain (like K2 or everest) become a volcano?

rocky Steve

Hi Steve,

No, volcanoes form where there is a source of magma within the Earth. "Normal mountains" as you say, are formed in a different manner, namely the crunching and piling up of material as two continents collide. there is no magma produced in this process so there won't be volcanoes associated with it.

Sincerely,
Scott Rowland
