I am an A-level student studying Geography. For an essay the question is why does volcanic activity vary in nature over the earths surface? I know simmple answer, plates and lava composition but really need more in depth info (examples, models if possible). Can you help, please I'm stuck

Make a trip to the library and have a look at: Orogenic Andesites and Plate Tectonics by James Gill, 1981. Holmes Principles of Physical Geology - Duff Igneous Petrology - McBirney Ig. Petrogenesis - Wilson Igneous & Meatamorphic Petrology - Best. Also Chapter 13 Volcanism and Orogeny in Williams, H., and McBirney, A.R., 1979, Volcanoes: San Francisco, Freeman, Cooper and Company, 397 p. Each of these will have summaries on the conditions that generate the different types of magmas at each tectonic setting. If you have a specific question write us again.
