Yes, certainly at mid-ocean ridges bit also in geothermal areas at subaerial volcanoes. I put "bacteria" into VolcanoWorld's two seach engines and got a dozen hits, many were useful and you might read them. There was also a recent article within the last year in Scientic American. I couldn't find it online. Have a look since your library should have it.
