Hi! I am a grad student and i need a few samples of volcanic ash for my research. I need ash obtained at different distances from the volcano. I have studied ash obtained from Mt. Fuego volcano. Can you suggest me some people/institutions who can have such a collection of ash (without any impurities) obtained at different distances from the site of eruption. Thanks a lot!

Hi Archana,

That's an interesting request. I don't exactly know where you might start looking. I can, however, give you the e-mail address of a graduate student (of Michigan Tech University) who is doing volcanological work in Guatemala:

Paul Kimberly
pgkimber@mtu.edu

You can also try contacting someone in Guatemala such as:
Edgar Bryan
Centro Universitariodel Norte
CONE-USAC
Guatemala

You might also try the Smithsonian Institution, for example:
Diane Hanley
dhanley@ceps.nasm.edu

Good Luck,

Scott Rowland
