Hi, I would like to know what kind of the 2 volcanoes is Kilauea. 1. Shield Volcano 2. Strato Volcano I read in a book it was a shield volcano but sheild volcanoes never have violent eruptions. And Kilauea does have eruptions. Please answer as soon as possible for my project is due on Monday! THANXS

Your basic assumption, that most eruption at shield volcanoes are gentle, is correct. However, Kilauea, a shield has had violent, explosive eruptions, most recently in 1924 and 1790 (http://volcano.und.edu/vwdocs/Parks/kilauea/chron.html).
