PollyA number of Hawaiian warriors and their followers were killed by an explosive eruption in around 1790. A photographer was killed by an explosive eruption in 1924, and in 1993 a visitor was standing on the unstable lava bench (where lava enters the ocean) when it collapsed, taking him with it. Kilauea is probably something like 200,000 to 150,000 years old.
Sincerely,
Scott Rowland
