How many times has Mount St. Helen's erupted?

Hi Mindy,
According to "Volcanoes of the World" by Tom Simkin & Lee Seibert,
Mt. St. Helens has erupted 38 times including the big 1980 eruption. I
have not added to this number the smaller eruptions after 1980 since they
were pretty much the same magma batch being erupted, but other folks might
consider these to be separate eruptions. That would take the total up to
45 or so.
There are sections about some of the more recent pre-1980 eruptions
