There is a low rock dome in northern Nigeria. How would you explain the features associated with such a dome?

Hi Herda Yantie Binte Mohamed Hamin,

I'm afraid I don't have any information on the dome you're talking about. How wide is it? How high is it? Nigeria isn't a volcanic area so I'm pretty sure that it doesn't have anything to do with volcanism. There are things called structural domes, which are parts of the Earth that have been bowed upward over great areas. The exact mechanism is usually not exactly clear. There are also big areas that have been bowed (or subsided down), forming structural basins.

Sincerely,
Scott Rowland
