I am a fourth grader in CT. and I am researching Mt. Fuji. I would like to know some of the more unusual facts about its eruption in 1707A.D. Thank you,

rocky Devon Schechinger

Hi Devon,

I'm afraid I don't even know the usual facts about the Mt. Fuji 1707 eruption, let alone the unusual ones!

In the on-line searcher for the Bulletin of Vocanology (part of VolcanoWorld) there was only Mt. Fuji reference, and it didn't deal with the 1707 eruption. It might have some references in it though, so here it is:

Minakami T, Sakuma S (1956). On magnetization of Mt Fuji (Huzi) and other volcanoes in Japan. Bulletin of Volcanology, volume 18: pages 77-102.

You might also be able to find:

Tsuya H (1955). Geological and petrological studies of volcano Fuji. Part 5: on the 1707 eruption of volcano Fuji. Bulletin of the Earthquake Research Institute, University of Tokyo, volume 33: pages 341-383.

As you might expect, a lot of the articles are written in Japanese. You might also want to check out the history section of your nearest library of bookstore.

I also did an internet search for Mt Fuji home pages. There were 100 of them but none jumped out and seemed to be obviously helpful to you. Some of them at least might have some photographs, and for some reason a number of them looked like their main subjects were wine and cigars.

This hasn't been to helpful I'm afraid. Good luck on your paper!

Sincerely,

Scott Rowland
