Is there a good web site or book where I can find information on the now extinct(?) volcanoes that make up the Island of Mauritius ? I am looking to find a good quality research / feild memoir for the area, any ideas as to where, an how much?

Brian - Here is some more info about Mauritius. It seems to be rather neglected, but Alistair Baxter from Univ. of Edinburgh published a few papers of the petrology and nodules in the mid 1970s:

Petrology of the Older Series lavas from Mauritius, Indian Ocean.
Geol. Soc. Am. Bull. 86, 1449-1458, 1975.

Ultramafic and mafic nodule suites in shield-forming lavas from
Mauritius. Jl. Geol. Soc. London 135, 565-581, 1978.

If you go there to study the volcano please send VolcanoWorld some pix and a description to add to our database. Thanks. Chuck --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charles A. Wood, Space Studies, Univ. of North Dakota
