What is the composition of the lava flows of the Taupo region and what are the types of rock present?

rocky Andrew

Dear Andrew,

The volcanic rocks at Taupo are mostly pyroclastic flow and pumice deposit. They are rhyolite in composition. Taupo was the site of an eruption in 186 A.D. that is considered the largest eruption in historic time.
