Is it true that mount Taupo is going to erupt and cause another ice age within the next few years?

rocky Sheavan

Hi Sheavan,

I wouldn't want to say that was impossible, but I'd say that it is 99.999% not going to happen. For one thing, Taupo is what is called an inverse volcano - it is not a mountain but instead a shallow depression. Second, there is no evidence that it is undergoing any sort of unrest at the moment. Finally, it is not known whether volcanic activity has anything to do with causing ice ages. Taupo is indeed a volcano and it is one that erupts in a very violent way.

Sincerely,
Scott Rowland
