A book called "The Story of New Zealand Volcanoea" by G.L. Pearce, says:
"Although carbon dating has shown that Rangitoto certainly erupted about
800 years ago, there are indications that sporadic outbursts continued to
a much later date." "Volcanoes of the World" by Tom Simkin and Lee
Seibert lists a possible eruption around 1350 AD, or about 645 years ago.
