We are planning to evaluate the rainwater composition influenced by ash from Popocatepetl Volcano. Could you tell us which chemical species are convenient in order to characterize the rainwater in Mexico City.

rocky Lilia Garcia

Hi Lilia,

I'm afraid I'm not the right person to know which species should be analyzed. I know that there have been problems in Iceland with water systems being contaminated by flourine, but that seems to be more of a problem there than anywhere else. You might also want to test the pH of the water, and that shouldn't be too difficult. You need to ask the folks at UNAM for a more useful answer than I can give. Sorry.

Sincerely,
Scott Rowland
