I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE POPOCATEPETL VOLCANOE (IN THE CITY OF PUEBLA IN MEXICO) IS A POTENTIAL BOMB. I MEAN IF IS IT POSSIBLE THAT IS GOING TO EXPLODE AND WHAT WOULD THE CONSEQUENCES BE? BECAUSE I LIVE IN MEXICO CITY, AND I THINK THAT THE AUTORITIES KNOW SOMETHING AND THEY DON'T WANT TO ALARM THE POPULATION.WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS?

Like any strato-volcano Popocatepetl has the potential for a big explosive eruption. It also has the potential for a bunch of small eruptions then going back to sleep for a few tens of years. Because that second scenario is what Popocatepetl has done in the past then it is a much more likely scenario for the current unrest. For the eruption to be devastating in Mexico City the eruption would have to be huge, and I think it is very unlikely. The officials at UNAM have the best data and they know much more than I do about the activity of Popocatepetl.
