My parents have a home on Montserrat near the airport. Can you tell
me which areas of the island are at the greatest risk? The geo.mtu map
was does not show well on my computer display. They are elderly and thus
I am worried about the time they would have to evacuate.

Dear Tim,
I have read through all the latest reports on the Michigan Tech Volcano Page
but still don't have an adequate understanding of the geography of
Montserrat. The airport is on the eastern shore of the island, and
although apparently some activity is visible from there, the airport area
does not seem to be in the most hazadous part of the island. The greatest
hazard is in the south. Frankly no one knows what is going to happen
and thus the real areas of hazard are only informed guesses. From the
various messages I have read the Montserrat govt seems to be doing a good
job of informing the citizens of potential problems and relocating people
as prudent. I understand that people evauated from the south side of the
island have now been allowed to return. The absolutely safest course of
action would probably be to have your parents visit for the holidays, but
I imagine they have a much better understanding of the situation than we
do. I'm sorry that I can not be more helpful.
