I'm in 3rd grade, I'm doing a project on Mt.Vesuvius. I found a lot of info, but I would really like some more from a real scientist. When was the most recent eruption? Can you predict the next? And if you can how do you do it?

Dear Jessica,

The most recent eruption at Vesuvius was from 1913-1944. The volcanologists in Italy are monitoring the volcano and will probably be able to predict the next eruption. Before the next eruption the volcano will swell (like a balloon blowing up) and earthquakes will be caused by magma moving inside the volcano. Volcanologists can detect these changes.
