What type of fault does Vesuvius lie on (reverse, normal)?

rocky Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Volcanoes don't necessarily lie on faults. You may be interchanging the term "plate boundary" with "fault". As for Vesuvius, it probably overlies some sort of subduction plate boundary associated with the collision of Africa with Eurasia, but the details are not clearly known.

Sincerely,
Scott Rowland
