DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE ORDOVICIAN ISLAND-ARC VOLCANICS OF SOUTH MAYO, IRELAND? IF YOU DO YOU WOULD BE A BIG HELP FOR MY DISERTATION.

rocky DESMOND TREANOR

Hi Desmond,

The honest answer is no, I don't know a thing about those Ordovician volcanics. I looked in my old Historical Geology book but it is rather North America-centric, and there is only a short section on this part of Earth's history. As you probably already know, a proto-Atlantic ocean was being subducted on both sides under North America and Europe/Africa. There were arc volcanoes on both sides of this proto-atlantic, and I presume the volcanics you are studying for your dissertation are part of this.

As you are in the UK, I imagine that the library and journal resources on these volcanics is pretty extensive.

Sorry I couldn't halp you very much.

Sincerely,

Scott Rowland
