Do you know anything about what's going on with Mt.Rainier?

rocky H. Bradbury

Dear H. Bradbury,

I contacted two geologists at the U.S. Geological Survey Cascade Volcano Observatory. On May 22, 1995, they informed me that there is no evidence of any renewed volcanic activity. The only seismicity is about 10 miles west of the volcano in an area that has had a number of earthquakes over the decades. This seismicity is apparently unrelated to the volcano. A magnitude 4.1 earthquake occurred in this area last week.

The Cascade Volcano Observatory maintains a homepage with information about Mount Rainier . It can be reached through VolcanoWorld.

Thank you for your question.
