I have heard that Mont-Royal (a small mountain in the middle of Montreal
island, Qc, Canada) is a very old volcano. Could you confirm ? And if it
really is, what would be the age ? Thanks in advance !

Hi Hugo,
I passed your question along to Dr. Glenn Brown at the University of
Toronto, and this is his reply:
- I was just in Montreal and all
I saw were metasediments. I looked at the regional geology maps
of Quebec before the trip. The mountain looks to be an outcrop
of Grenville rock (around 800Ma). It is best to ask John Styx.
He's a volcanologist at Universite de Quebec a Montreal.
Hopefully this will help.
Sincerely,
Scott Rowland, University of Hawaii
