I am doing a research study on a possible catastrophe in Northern
Midwest America. I heard last week of a possible volcano that has been
laying dormant for a thousand years. This supposed volcano has been
expelling gasses that have been sickening and killing trees in the area
surrounding it. Unfortunately I am clueless to this volcano's location
and its name. I only know it is somewhere around Wyoming or possibly
Montana. If you have or can find any information on this volcano for me
it will be much appreciated. Even a name would make a world of
difference to me.

Suzanne -
The most likely catastrophe to hit the northern midwest is
probably drought associated with global warming, but let me comment on
the volcano emitting posionous gases. The volcano is Long Valley caldera
in the eastern part of south-central California. VolcanoWorld has a
number of pictures and brief history of Long
Valley The US
Geological Survey also has information.
CO gases have been coming out of the ground within the caldera, killing
trees and animals. No one knows if this is a precursor to an eruption.
We'll just have to vigilantly watch and wait.
