Are there any cinder cones in Washington State?

rocky Tyler

Hi Tyler,

Yes, there are cinder cones in Washington State. Some of them occur on the flanks of Mt. Baker and Mt. Adams (it is common for large volcanoes to have cinder cones as flank vents). Also, according to "Volcanoes of North America" by Chuck Wood and Jurgen Keinle, there are 3 monogenetic fields that contain numerous cinder cones. These are the Simcoe, Indian Heaven, and Marble Mountain-Trout Creek Hill monogenetic fields.

Sincerely,

Scott Rowland
