I have heard that Cotopaxi in Ecuador is growing and is now over 6000 meters. Is this true? What is the current accepted height for Cotopaxi?

Hi Joe,

Volcanoes of the World, by Tom Simkin and Lee Seibert, lists the summit elevation of Cotopaxi as 5911 meters above sea level. However, its base is well above sea level. Cotopaxi hasn't had a confirmed eruption since 1904 so I don't think it is presently growing. There may be a little bit of vertical growth if its magma chamber is expanding but as far as I know, that isn't presently happening.
On VolcanoWorld, there is a section on Cotopaxi.

sincerely,

Scott Rowland
