We need more information on the fernandina volcanoes in the galapagos islands!!!

rocky cjhs

Hi cjhs,

What information do you need? Fernandina is a basaltic shield volcano. Its highest elevation is just under 1500 m. It has a large caldera that is about 4 km by 6 km by 800 meters deep. Fernandina has been the most active volcano in th Galapagos since the first records were started (in the early 1800s). Fernandina last erupted about a year ago from vents on its SW flank. The lava reached the ocean. There is more information about this eruption in the Michigan Tech. University volcanology home page, and there is a link to this home page in VolcanoWorld.

Please make sure you include your complete e-mail address with any future questions.

Sincerely,

Scott Rowland
