Volcanoes on Mars

Olympus Mons is an extinct volcano and the largest known volcano in the solar system.

It rises about 16.5 miles above the surface of the planet -- that's 3 times higher than commercial airliners fly. It is 372 miles from edge to edge at the base -- that's larger than the state of Washington! The crater in the center is 40 miles wide from rim to rim. Olympus Mons is an extinct volcano and the largest known volcano in the solar system.
