CCC, Civilian Conservation Corps

In 1933, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt established the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) to provide work for unemployed men. Women were not allowed to work in the CCC.

Over 3,000,000 American men enrolled in the CCC. They were relocated to camps in the National Forests and National Parks.

The men enlisted for six months, and were given food, shelter, clothing, and $30.00 a month. If the man had a family, $25.00 of this amount was automatically sent home.

Those of us enjoying outdoor activities today still make use of the many facilities they built, such as trails, roads, bridges, and campgrounds.
