An advancing pahoehoe flow front crossing Highway 130 in the vicinity of Queens' Bath. The flames and black smoke are from burning asphalt. Note that the trees in the background, which have been completely surrounded by lava ~1 m thick, are still standing and their upper branches are not even burning; the lava is inflating around them. (April 1987)
