dead Ohi'a trees

A stand of dead Ohi'a trees killed by falling cinder from Pu'u 'O'o. The lower flank of Pu'u 'O'o is visible at left. This is about 1.5 km downwind from the Pu'u 'O'o vent and the entire area is covered by a couple meters of cinder and spatter. Some of the larger spatter blobs visible here are 20-30 cm across. (April 1985)
