Elements in Rocks and Everyday Things (Grades 4-6)
Activity 3 is a simple matching exercise. Students must match
everyday things with the elements they contain. Oxygen is part of the
molecule in the water and ice in the glass. Sodium is in the salt in the
shaker. Aluminum makes the soda can. Magnesium is used in batteries.
Silicon is used to make the glass in eyeglasses. Phosphorous is used in
matches. Potassium is found in bananas. Calcium is found in milk. Iron
is used in metals to make car frames. Titanium is used in paints to make
them white. Can you think of any other elements in the things we use
everyday?
