World Organization of Volcano Observatories (WOVO)

Taranaki Volcano Observatory, New Zealand

A network of 5 seismometers around the Egmont Volcano is monitored on a daily basis by Civil Defence staff in the Headquarters. Digital tapes are analysed by staff at the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences Ltd, Wairakei, and the drum recorder tapes are sent to the University of Auckland for analysis weekly. This is the first such project in New Zealand led by a Regional Council, assisted by the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences Ltd, Massey University, University of Auckland and the Ministry of Civil Defense.
