World Organization of Volcano Observatories (WOVO)

Observatorio Vulcanologico de Colombia - INGEOMINAS

The observatory was established after the November 13, 1985 eruption of Nevado del Ruiz, using the numerous equipment provided by foreign countries, mainly United States, Canada, Japan and Switzerland. All present activities of the observatory are concentrated on Ruiz Volcano, but in the intermediate future they will be extended to other active volcanoes in the country. The seismology of the volcano is monitored using 6 telemetered seismic stations, 4 portable stations and 4 1Hz seismometers recorded on smoked paper.

Deformation is measured by 6 shooting points for EDM measurements to 34 reflectors, 12 dry tilt stations and 6 radial and tangential precision levelling lines.

Geochemistry is monitored by 1 correlation spectrometer (COSPEC) and 1 portable acidity-conductivity measuring equipment.
