Instituto Geofisico del Peru

The office I.G.P. - Arequipa was installed in 1988 for the purpose for the surveillance and research of the Nevado Sabancaya volcano which reactivated in November, 1986. After the beginning of the eruption on May 28, 1990, seismic monitoring with 5 portables stations was operated temporally (July to November, 1990). A scientific program of collaboration in remote sensing was settled with several French agencies (Laboratoire de G ologie Structurale et T l d tection, Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales, G osciences Consultants). Seven SPOT scenes were acquired before and after the beginning of eruption. The program of volcanology investigation for 1992-93 is dedicated to Misti volcano hazards. In the southern Peru there are several volcanoes with fumarolic activity: Misti, Ubinas, Huaynaputina, Ticsani, Yucamane, Tutupaca and Calientes.
